Todays insight and review was really quite interesting. First the starvation that has long stricken the lands of Africa. Even though the aid from the US is trickling in the poor nations of Niger, Zimbabwe, Ethopia, Mauritania and many other countries that are suffering from the droughts, locust swarms coupled with the lean harvest have rendered them helpless. Then the exploration into the ineffiency of the US aid programme. Then the next interesting article was the re-introduction of New Economic Policy (NEP) which discussed the rationale behind the implementation a old policy which sole purpose was to close the gap between wealthy Chinese and the 50% of malays below the line of poverty. I learnt a new phrase - abject poverty. First time i read the newspaper with a dictionary beside me. Okay dictionary aside, another arguement was that which the malays have benefitted from the NEP and have climbed up the ladder of success, why arent they relinquishing their "right" of priviledges that they recieve undeserving. Like the 8-9% discount they get for buying a premium condominum for a "cool" 1 million rupiah.
Okay next, another article about the iniquities of the car company, Proton. The not so recent blowup a month back i think. And now we have an article that tells us about the poor export numbers of Proton and it reveals the failings of the 20-year protection of the Malaysian goverment by posing high tariffs on foreign car companies. Then came the article on Mr Shanon which drew me back to the article in the World section where it featured a picture of a woman who was clutching her baby. quite touching. Hah, but after that i decided to fold the papers and head to my tv! Soccer. okay done. anyway, VS all the way.
